Looks like Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, “Dunki,” might not have the roaring start at the box office that he’s been enjoying this year. It’s expected to have the lowest opening of the year for him, even after the successes of “Pathaan” and “Jawan.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated film “Dunki” had a grand opening at Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety Galaxy theater. The initial buzz and excitement were palpable, but unfortunately, the movie didn’t attract as many viewers throughout the day.
According to Sacnilk, “Dunki” is estimated to have earned around Rs 30 crore on Thursday. The morning and afternoon shows had occupancy rates of 26.45% and 21.77% respectively, with an overall Hindi occupancy of around 24.11%. Since it’s a working weekday, the film might pick up pace over the upcoming Christmas weekend.
Looks like “Dunki” might face some tough competition from Prashanth Neel’s “Salaar,” which is set to release on Friday. Even before its release, “Salaar” has already made a significant impact at the ticket counters, earning Rs 35.23 crore from the sale of 16,83,871 tickets. It’s going to be an interesting battle at the box office.
According to film trade expert Sreedhar Pillai, “Dunki” might not gain as much attention in South India compared to “Salaar.” He mentioned that since “Dunki” is a family-oriented and emotional film without Telugu or Tamil dubbed versions, it may have limited screens and be primarily shown in multiplexes.
The response to “Dunki” seems to be divided among critics and the audience. Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express described the film as a “bore” in her review. She mentioned that throughout the 161-minute runtime, she struggled to find anything that evoked emotion. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Hardy, seemed to be putting in a lot of effort without much reward.
